We can’t let quality, purpose-made children’s TV slip away without putting up a fight to save it. It’s ridiculous to care passionately about what goes into children’s mouths and ignore what goes into their minds.Childhood experiences are crucial and television plays an important part in those - just ask your adult friends about the programmes they remember from childhood. Of course we shouldn’t expect children to pay for their own programmes by eating junk food. We should be prepared to subsidise good programmes, as an important part of our investment in our children’s future.
And if the system won’t allow us to do that, then we should change the system.
